I'm sexy and you know it

Recommendation:

It is a great book with an amazing story but there are some problems. The smartness of Artemis is complicated; he does things no normal person can. You need to have a lot of fantasy to like the book. The first time I heard about the book I thought that is was not something for me with elves and magic but you don’t have to like that kind of things because the story is good and it is just like a thriller but then in a ‘fantasy jacket’.  It is the last time I read a book from the Artemis fowl series. It is a good story for people between 11 and 14. Older people are getting trouble with the illogical things in the book. A great book for young teenagers but you must like the fantasy part of it.

Theme/Motif:

The theme of the book is fantasy, crime and adventure. It is a book for young adults who likes this a lot. The fantasy is a difficult part in the book so you need to like that. The crime and adventure parts are just like a police thriller but then with elves. It is not like Harry Potter magic but magic in the criminal way. Things like reading minds and that kind of stuff. I can’t find a motif in the book. There are no lessons in it, maybe the only lesson in it is that you should never stereotype somebody. An example of this: Artemis thought that the elves where not smart enough to find him just because one of the elves lost his ‘magic book’. The elves find him and that gave him some trouble.

Main character:

Name: Artemis Fowl

Age: 12

Story: Artemis is a criminal mastermind, for me he is the most interesting character just because the way he talk to people and the way he find a solution for every problem. His main goal in this book (and the rest of the series) is to find his kidnapped father and recover the honour of his family. His appearance is difficult to find in the book. The only thing they tell about him is that he is young, skinny and that he got ‘jet black’ hair. He got some problems with his emotions. He never shows what he really feels. Social contacts are also a problem because he never trusts somebody beside his family and his guard. 

the Title

The title is Artemis Fowl, it is the name of a criminal mastermind. He is the main character of the book. This book is the first of a series. That is the reason why the title is just the name of the main character, the author is just telling the story of his life and his first contact with elves. The other books in the series have names like ‘Artemis Fowl The Arctic Incident’ or ‘Artemis Fowl The Eternity Code’. This book is an introduction for the whole series.
